Humpty Dumpty
My heart breaks open
Like an egg
Fallen from a great height.
What once was an impervious shield
Crumbles
Because of gravity,
The coldness of human hearts,
All of the above.
I ooze onto the pavement,
Unable to do anything
To help myself or others.
The blood mixed into the yolk
And clear whites.
I’ll try to paint you a picture.
Like a dream, and my bed,
Dropping down an elevator shaft,
I wake myself up before impact.
(Behind the façade,
Cracks are everywhere.)
I would hug you tight,
Holding on for dear life,
If I didn’t think you’d break
Too.
