"Assisted Living"

I'm doing a Facebook poetry challenge with my friend David Robbins from September 15th to October 15th, 2014.  I'm going to post my poems here as well.  Our goal is to write and post a poem a day.  Here's my first one!

Assisted Living

My cat
turned into a senior citizen
almost overnight.

She doesn’t have a walker
or carry a cane,
but we take her upstairs to her litter box
so she doesn’t pee
on the bathroom floor,
below.

I don’t mind
putting the water bowl
where she can reach it.

Or feeding her wet food
several times a day,
never too much at once.

She doesn’t play Bingo
or watch TV.

Instead she naps all day,
as if waiting for her
misspent youth to come back.

She still purrs.

We give her vitamins,
it seems to help.

Almost overnight,
our house has become
a Rest Home for Wayward Cats.

Deep Freeze 26 U: Oracle Card: Week of Sept.15-21, 2014

From the Enchanted Map Oracle Cards Guidebook by Colette Baron-Reid:

"Everything has its season.  Now is the time to put activity on hold while you rest."

Upright

"The cold winter beckons you to slow down and put a "freeze" on things that are not yet ready to bloom.  It's time for regeneration and hibernation.  Forgo ambitious activity.  A "pregnant pause" allows ideas to gestate;  projects to shift and change; and relationships to go through a dreamy state of being, not going anywhere--not needing to.

This is also the time to put all your arguments on ice.  Nothing beneficial will come from any of them.  Self-care is the most important activity now...so reflect, read a good book, or get a massage.  Rest and dream."

I've been looking for some guidance lately.  I'll be sharing the Oracle Card for the week on Sunday nights, for awhile at least.  I won't be interpreting the messages I get.  I'll leave the personal interpretation up to you.  Share what comes up, if you like.  :)

Visual Goals

I'm doing Visual Goals for 2 of my Ocean Seminary College classes, Pillar Seidr Year 2 (which is almost over) and Tarot 1.  Here is how I decided to set it up so they are always visible (on my bathroom door) and yet still have meaning for me.

I mark off, with a highlighter, when I do my homework.

I have a set of Tarot cards I just use for crafts.

That's a picture of Freyja, the goddess we work with in Pillar Seidr.

Has anyone else tried a system like this to reach their goals?  Let me know if you try something like this!

Waves of Words Mini-Writers Conference Sept. 5, 6, & 7, 2014

OK, I know I should have posted earlier, so people could come to this.  But, there will be more Waves of Words events in the future.  Original flyer:

A friend of mine asked to hear more about what went down this weekend...

We, some of the authors and Ena Myers (VP of Waves of Words) manned the Waves of Words for the three days of the Ocean Shores Associated Arts Art and Craft Show.  I had fun this weekend participating in the planned events.  On Saturday night we had a round robin make-up-the-story-as-you-go event, which was hilarious and involved butterflies with switchblades, among other things!

Then we had readings of our work.  Then we "acted" out my play "Surf and Turf," which was also a lot of fun and personally rewarding to hear read out loud.  All these events were at The Galway Bay Pub in Ocean Shore; they graciously lent us their Tasting Room and Beer Garden.

Here are some photos from this weekend:

Compass 50 U: Oracle Card: Week of Sept. 8-14, 2014

From the Enchanted Map Oracle Cards Guidebook by Colette Baron-Reid:

"As long as you orient your compass to True North--the direction of your higher power--you will never be lost."

Upright

"You're entering uncharted territories right now and can expect wonderful new experiences.  To stay on the highest path of your destiny, you'll need to keep your compass pointed to True North.  Only Spirit, or a higher power, can serve this function.  Money, property, prestige, romance, and other material achievements can't help you find your true path.  They are simply things you may experience along the journey.

Know that Spirit is working in your life, so even if you feel lost temporarily, it will be easy to find your way.  Have faith and trust, for your compass, with Spirit as True North, will ensure that you'll never be lost--even on a starless night when all seems dark."

I've been looking for some guidance lately.  I'll be sharing the Oracle Card for the week on Sunday nights, for awhile at least.  I won't be interpreting the messages I get.  I'll leave the personal interpretation up to you.  Share what comes up, if you like.  :)
