Weekly Poem: "Dig In"

Dig In

The house that
stress built.

Houseboat for sale,
so says the sign.

Owners must have just left.

Left their jewelry and fabric behind
on bolts, in boxes.

The freezers are full.

It’s not mine.

“It’s yours,”
says the Captain.

Exploring further,
a laundry room,
shelves packed
with old foodstuffs
and dry goods.

“It will take me forever
to clean this out!”

“You have time,”
he tips his hat to me.

The job seems enormous,
I dig in.
