I was in shock, I now know

back then I raged

and went into denial

all that standard stupid stuff

I was good for a couple years

then relapsed into my old habits

and never recovered my earnestness

Not the best patient

not patient at all

no matter how I seem

It's been 18 years

things are getting worse

and better, depending on the numbers

on a white sheet of paper in black type

so black and white

She's calling a specialist

I imagine doctors in their ivory towers

with string and empty soup cans between them

Or maybe Morse Code?
